また、このことは国中のマフディー軍メンバーにすでに伝えてあるという。停戦は治安回復の大きな要因と言われている。

停戦は、昨年8月のシーア派の聖地カルバラで重要な宗教行事が行われている最中、マフディー軍と、アブドルアジズ・ハキム師率いるイラク・イスラム最高評議会（SIIC）の民兵組織バドル旅団が浸透していると言われる警察と激しく衝突、多数の死傷者を出したことがきっかけ。

サドル師暗殺計画
サドル派のウェブサイト（Nahrain Net）によると、サドル師はここ1ヶ月ほど体調がすぐれないそうで、症状からするとおそらく毒か放射性物質によると思われるという。さらに、アメリカ、イスラエル、もしくはイギリスの情報組織による暗殺計画の疑いをもっているという。詳しいことは伝えられていないが、症状は落ち着いているようだ。ニュース速報として2月20日に掲載された。上のと何か関係するのかもしれない。

サドル派の国会議員広報担当のNassar al-Rubaie氏によると、SIICと昨年10月6日に結んだ協定を破棄したと言っている。治安問題を解決すべく協定に基づき合同協議会を設立したが、うわべだけで機能していないと批判。シーア派が多いイラク南部でこの2大派閥はライバル関係にあり、衝突を繰り返してきた。10月1日に予定されている地方選挙に影響を与えそう。
